  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • canola oil for frying
  • toasted coconut for topping
  • 4 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
  • ¼ teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 to 3 drops red or pink food coloring
  • scant 1/3 cup hot water, plus more if necessary
