  • 4 large plum tomatoes, cored and thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon hot red pepper flakes
  • 1 cup very warm water (about 110°f)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • olive oil, for drizzling
  • about 1 cup marinara sauce
  • freshly grated parmesan cheese, for garnish
