Ingredients

  • ½ cup each butter and shortening, at room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • beat butter, shortening, sugar and eggs together until creamy. add cream
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • finely grated zest of 3 lemons
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup sugar or 2/3 cup agave nectar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
