  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped (about 3/4 cup)
  • 3 medium garlic cloves, finely chopped (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh oregano leaves, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated zest plus 1 tablespoon juice from 1 lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 4 (6-inch long) semolina or hero rolls
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 (28-ounce) can plum tomatoes
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped (about 3/4 cup)
  • 3 medium garlic cloves, finely chopped (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • shredded parmesan to tate
